Metal Scar Analysis
Submitted by Ace International of Japan
These photographs were taken at the National University, Technology Department, by using an electron microscope.
Objective: To examine the difference in protection against friction between MT- 10 Metal TreatmentTM and typical oil.
Equipment used: MPC lubricant tester
Lubricants: Standard mineral oil plus MT- 10 (added approx. 30%)
Object to be examined: The steel bearings pressurized by tester that show the size of the scars.
The first set of photos includes MT- 10 added to the oil with 400 kg of pressure on the bearing.
Scar Magnification: 50X
Scar Magnification: 350X
Scar Magnification: 1000X
The second set of photos is of another additive, which failed at 10- 15 kg of pressure.
Scar Magnification: 35X
Scar Magnification: 150X
Scar Magnification: 1000X
The third set of photos is of the oil only, with 5- 10 kg of pressure applied to the bearing.
